A dental implant is an artificial tooth root replacement. It works by the process of osseointegration, where bone is allowed to grow around a titanium screw placed in the bone. This forms a structural and functional connection between the living bone and the implant. The screw is then allowed to heal and an implant supported crown or bridge is then placed on top.
